John Hawkins of Right Wing News reports his conversation with a Senate aide, and calls the bill dead. Hawkins has always been solid with news like this, so hopefully we have some good news here:
Anon Senate Aide: Auto bailout dead.
John Hawkins: Dead dead? What happened? =D
Anon Senate Aide: Negotiations ended, no deal.
John Hawkins: Until next year or for a day or two?
Anon Senate Aide: Until next year. Corker tried to make a deal with Dems, UAW wouldn't make concessions, so it will die on cloture vote with GOP opposing. Vitter held the line too, objecting to quick vote, forcing more debate. He was strong.
John Hawkins: This is awesome!
Shocking to see that the UAW would rather see their members jobless than make reasonable concessions that could save the industry.
More at the link above, including Hawkins noting that even if the bailout dies, President Bush may do it himself. How can President Bush do this, you ask? It's one of his lesser known evil powers, obviously,
