Every time Barack Obama surprises me by picking a reasonably reasonable person for one spot, he selects a whackably wacky person for the next. Ellen Moran, his new communications director, was his Saturday nutcase selection.
Moran is the executive director and chief strategist of EMILY's List, the nation's most powerful political action committee that focuses on increasing the number of pro-abortion women in Congress and governorships. "Early Money is Like Yeast," the group's originating name, focused on 14 races nationwide and featured them on EMILY's List website.
I have been told that wanting abortion to remain legal, safe and rare is not a radical position. I don't disagree. However, making it your life's work to make sure that people who favor abortion on demand get elected out of some harebrained idea that the right to off your own offspring is the right most worth fighting for, above all others? At best it indicates a horrifying lack of perspective.
And why should this woman even care about the issue? It has been my experience that women who devote their life's work to making sure other women don't have their careers sidetracked by being punished with a baby and who work for an organization with the word "yeast" in its name, don't ever have to worry about winding up pregnant.
