Really? Then why is it the dummycrats are the ones to clamor for the entitlement programs? Been to Harlem lately? Been to any inner cities lately? That is the MOST ignorant thing I have ever read. Do some valid research about both parties from both points of view before you post comments that make you sound uneducated. These so-called "...useless, unproductive society members...", are comprised of many people who have worked very hard to start businesses and create jobs for many of the non-white, non-heterosexual, non-christian, non-anglicized people that you speak of...jobs that help these people pay for rent/mortgage, groceries, clothes, cars, etc. So think next time...you know not what you speak of!

The story that our esteemed host cited above is a perfect example of what rational decision-takers will do: when offered a choice between something for free vis a vis having to pay for it, they chose the freebie. Why pay for insurance when someone else will do it for you?

The sad fact is that our system of private insurance relies on people having a sense of responsibility, a belief that they ought to take care of themselves. It is only a sense of responsibility that would have some people in Hawaii not dropping their children off of their insurance to suckle at the public teat, because, absent considerations of personal responsibility, if the decision is to be based solely on economics, then the only rational decision is to do as some of the good citizens in the Aloha State have done, and let someone else pay for their children’s insurance.

But, in fact, this is what our friends on the left want.

Hey, Clyde, good points.

Democrats like to think that if they are sincere about wanting to help people, then it doesn't matter how idiotic their plan to help people is. All that matters is that they care and they are sincere.

As if we don't all remember that the welfare state failed, social security has failed, Medicare is a disaster...

At some point, can't you be a sincere, caring person and also have the brainpower to expect, ahead of time, the obvious consequences of your proposals?

"The intent." Cut me a break. Was the intent of the old welfare laws to have people pump out more babies so they could get more welfare?

hunh. go figure. you mean people would stop buying private insurance because of the premium, and switch to public insurance because they're already paying for it out of taxes?

isn't that unfair? i mean the rich can afford private insurance, so shouldn't they like keep on paying for it and then pay for my kids, too? do they think this is a welfare state or something?

i got another idea. i think there should be a law against arresting people because they smoke a little dope.
