The Bush Doctrine is a creation of media. He himself never said the words. The fact that academia took its cue from the media is hardly surprising. Certainly many people who were paying attention could tell you what it is, but many could not. Including Charlie Gibson, to a certain extent.

I mean REALLY smart - have an advanced economics degree, knowledge of the world and foreign policy - BANKING. Obama (HARVRD GRAD) - chose Biden for the foreign policy to balance his ticket. Oh. yeah, McCain chose Palin for the female factor. That's really smart, NOT. We need someone who is going to LEAD because they are involved, open-minded and progressive. This is a world economy and marketplace and we need to think bigger.

He wanted the women to vote, but it will take more than just "a women" running for office for them to vote for Palin. He needed to do more of a comprehensive check to make sure she could think on her feet and have a clue. She is embarrassing. She should step aside. The American voter male or female is not going to vote for McCain just because he selected a female running mate. This is a huge problem. She is not smart, not even close.

Everybody that is still repeating that Palin didn't know how to answer the question about "Bush doctrine" just proves to be an idiot. There is not such doctrine because nobody defined it precisely, and there are at least 4 definitions to it giving by the media (and not the While House).

The commentators on CNN are addressing this mistake constantly so they just prove their agenda: they want this woman destroyed with any price.

In my comment above I said that the left media will use some of the Palin's answers to gun her down regardless of what the content of the answers were about.

Here is one article that proves my point:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/13/AR2008091302037.html

I saw the whole interview without the cuts and it was perfect. She responded very well, like a diplomat, to all the questions about the foreign affairs that were addressed.

I agree Gibson did a less than admirable job of interviewing, but let's focus on Ms. Palin's answers. She has been disingenuous at best about the "bridge to nowhere." She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine is, and it's NOT simply an inside the beltway concept. It has been written about extensively in mainstream publications. She didn't give a cogent answer when Gibson told her what he meant by the Bush Doctrine. Her answer about Israel was so shallow, as was her understanding of the very complex issues involving Russia, Georgia, and the Ukraine. She's likeable, she's spunky, she does well on camera (she has a degree in sports broadcasting, so she's well-trained), but she doesn't have the depth of knowledge to be one heartbeat from the presidency. Another thing I find troubling is, despite her status as a rising star in the Republican party, she has not had the interest to educate herself on these issues that are SO fundamental for someone seeking the vice presidency. Spunk and appeal don't stand one in good stead to be VP. A depth of knowledge of the issues, coupled with her experience, would have gone a long way toward convincing me. This isn't American Idol.

This is ridiculous. Imagine, let's get every journalists who asks tough questions of our elected officials fired, just because we don't like them. I guess we should equally start an ipetition to impeach our elected officials who have taken the country down the wrong path. Please let's get a grip on reality. Actually, I just went to that site to check it out, this is one of the comments "Sarah Palin is one of us, she knows what it takes to run a home, raise children, show love for family, and balance the house hold budget." Yes, and how does that qualify her to be VicePresident. Funny that none of these people would start or sign a similar site for the way Fox News treated Hillary Clinton. Hypocrisy. I be the first one to say, that Governor Palin deserves to be treated respectfully, I don't think she was disrespected on this interview. She was vetted only by a few hours by McCain. I am glad someone asked her tough questions, for us to know more about her qualifications. She showed very little understanding of anything. Many more qualified women in the Republican party even with conservative credentials that would have been great for McCain and the ticket. She is being used as a pawn. And if this sound condescending well, tough. We should be more ashamed of the Rove tactics in this campaign. They used it against McCain himself in 2000 and it will backfire this time around. Sick of this theater.

Not sure about that. Republicans have gone through great lengths to keep Ms. Palin from giving interviews to the press. I can see why. They actually picked Charlie Gibson, no one else. She was nervous and also gave the impression that she was answering from a script. The interview was edited. Of course. The liberty news rooms have on editing, who knows. I very much doubt all of the weakness of the interview had anything to do with editing. Her own body language changed, because questions got tougher. She could have turned it around and could have told Gibson that his question on the Bush Doctrine was ambiguous. There were so many things she could have done to at least fight back at such bias (which in all honesty, I don't think there was). Charlie Gibson is one the most moderate of the so called "left media". I watched and interview with Hillary Clinto conducted by Bill O'Riley, one of the most arrogant people on TV, and pretty much to the right and a mouthpiece to the Republican party. The great thing about that interview was that Hillary handled it and answered every question, because guess what, she knows what she is talking about. Same thing with Obama. There is a fundamental understanding, that wether or not they are right or wrong on what they are saying, at least they have an understanding of what they are saying. They can back up their arguments. Ms Palin on the other hand was pretty much out of her depth.

For the guy from Europe... I am from Europe too.

I saw the interview and I knew something was wrong with it.

Well, here it is:

1. The interview as it was presented on ABC at 6:30 PST it was edited. There were answers from Palin that were removed by ABC so she would look weak or unsure about her answers. Also, they putted one of her answers after a different question from Charlie so it would like she didn’t answer the question. At 10:00PM Thursday night they replay the interview without the cuts. THERE WAS NOT COMPARASING!!!!! She responded VERY WELL to all the questions, and she knew when to avoid a strait answer (about Israel for example) and when not.

2. There is not such a "Bush doctrine". This is a nick name used by some people from media to describe certain positions from Bush. There are at least 4 positions from Bush that media called "Bush doctrine":

One, as Charlie said, is the preemptive strike. But this "doctrine" was used by greeks with hundreds of years before Christ, so it was not something invented or used by Bush for the first time in the history.

Another one is to help the countries from Middle East to become democracies, which Palin was talking about in her first answer about the “Bush Doctrine”.

Another one is to consider the countries that are hosting or supporting terrorists equally responsible and targetable like the terrorists. From here the concept of “axe of evil”.

And there was another one that I don’t remember right now.

Charlie looked like an idiot with the question about the “Bush doctrine”. He just tried to catch her in her own words. Also he didn’t define the question. There is not such a Bush Doctrine because nobody defined it.

Just because Palin didn't give the answer that Charlie expected, because he had another view about the "Bush Doctrine", it doesn't mean that she answered the question wrong.

She actually answers it right, because one of the 4 “Bush doctrines” that Charlie was talking about is the one that Palin answered.

ALSO, Charlie said that Bush defined the doctrine of preemptive strike in September of 2001, which is not true. This concept was used to attack Iraq, which was later.

I recorded the interview and I watch it today multiple times. Charlie was disgusting. When Palin was answering the questions, he was rotating his leg like he didn't care about her point of view. He just tried to catch her. He didn't try to find out what she thinks about those issues or to have a conversation with her. This was more like “Let me prove to everybody how stupid you are.”

There where at least three questions that, regardless of the response, could’ve been used by the media against her:

1. If she had second thoughts when McCain proposed her. If she would say yes, the left media would say “See, even she recognized that she’s inexperienced or unsure about the job”. She responded with no, and now the left media is accusing her that she’s too arrogant and proud.

2. If she would support the Israel to attack Iran. If she would say yes, she would be accused of being ready to go to war too easy and would also offend the muslim countries. If she would say no, she would be accused that she doesn’t support Israel. She responded brilliant by saying we can not second guess israelies intention to defend themselves.

3. If it’s legitimate to cross over in Pakistan and attack the talibans there. If she would say no, then she is too weak. If she would respond with yes, that means she doesn’t recognize the suzerainty of another country. She responded very well by saying that we have to do whatever it takes to stop those terrorists.

The best example of how one of her answers was reinterpreted by the media is the answer about NATO. If Georgia and Ukraine would be accepted in NATO and Russia would attack one of them, does that mean we have to go to war with Russia?, asked Charlie. If she would say no, it would mean that she doesn’t know what and how NATO works. She responded with ”perhaps yes, if they ask for our help”, which is exactly according to the NATO agreement, and now the media is saying that she wants to go war with Russia.

The hypocrisy and stupidly of left media from this country is just off limits. They just want to destroy this woman with any price.

Now, after I watched the first part of the interview without the cuts, I have to say that Sarah Palin was brilliant. Charlie...? A disgusting and disgusted person. You could see that on his body language, his attitude and the way he asked the questions.

Sorry, but this is not journalism.

I don't think she is uneducated. I wouldn't go as far to call her narrow minded either, that diminishes the argument. I have no problem saying two things, after this interview I made up my mind, she is not qualified to be VP. It shows that she lacks knowledge of the issues. I intend to vote on issues, not on one single issue, but on those that matter to the country as a whole. She doesn't understand them, she also seemed to be answering from a script. She is not ready to be VP, and certainly not to be President. Of the 2 tickets it is obvious that this is not thte one for me. Free country, everyone can make their own mind. Objectively I have to say she is not right. There are a lot more women in the Republican party that would have handled CG very well. They would have answered with confidence.

She is not showing much knowledge of issues. You don't prepare to be a VP in a few weeks. You have to show solid understanding of the issues, of the questions. She could become President. This is indefensible. I am sorry, but we should give a damn about here ability to understand the issues. Bush's hallmark has been preemption. A lot of the questions were around this notion. Even a quick search on Wikipedia would have described it.

"The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush, enunciated in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan.[1] Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that represented threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq), a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism, and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.[2][3][4] Some of these policies were codified in a National Security Council text entitled the National Security Strategy of the United States published on September 20, 2002.[5]"

"do you think that it is God's plan to liberate iraq".

Yes you stupid moron, anytime we try to liberate a people from a tyrant I think God or whovever you believe is up there is on board. What a stupid question intended to make her look like a book-burning, nascar loving, gun clinging redneck the media wants her to appear to be, gosh! :)

I saw this interview and she didn't come across well here. Let's stop blaming the media for tough questions. She didn't seem to have a grasp of the issues. She started the interview well poised, but by the end of it she was almost crouching, leaning forward. Her answers weren't really direct. The answer on Pakistan was just the worst. We may like her, but this shows lack of understanding of the issues. She should have handled these questions better. Will not look good to independents.

I don’t know what the host wanted to prove, but I think the questions were not precise enough. Also, they were putted into a way to check her into her own words.

But she responded well, quick, precise, she looked very calm, and her body language proved that she’s very strong and she’s not afraid of tough questions. Compare her body language with the Obama’s body language from O’Reilly interview. Obama couldn’t find his place on the chare, he touched Bill multiple times, he moved the head around, etc. Sarah Palin was looking strait into Charlie’s eyes without blinking.

I know the left media will speculate parts from the interview. But Obama and Biden know what is staying in front of them. And now I really think Biden is wet thinking at that debate... :))
